Daily 5 in Kindergarten

Daily 5

I have a special place in my heart for this strategy. I started using it when I taught 1st grade and it was a lifesaver. First, I read the book and then went to the internet to see other teacher's ideas related to Daily 5. This strategy involves 6 different rotations. These rotations are Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, Word Work, Listen to Reading and Meet with the Teacher. These rotations can be done daily or split between a few days. This is the part I really enjoy. This is an example of the first few weeks of Daily 5 and the second book called C.A.F.E.

Another great thing about this strategy is that it is student led and student choice. Depending on what grade you teach, the students have more independence.  In my first grade classroom, I let the students choose what they would do and they had to do specific ones each day. Now in my kindergarten class, I tell them which one they do and they get to choose the order. Here is an example of what a student might use to keep up with their rotations.

There are so many things that go into Daily 5. Here are some videos that give a better understanding of Daily 5 in action.

These are a few pictures from my personal classroom of how I organized my stations.

Here are a few sites that help with more details about daily 5:
